Every character express some sort of loneliness at one time or another in this story. Some character express the fact that they are currently alone and others express that they have been lonely in their past. Others do not clearly state that they have even thought about loneliness, but they do give subtle hints at to it. The two main characters in this story are George and Lennie, they travel together and yet both express their struggles and fears of being alone. People Affected by Loneliness Loneliness can make anyone affected by it very depressing and sad to see. It is seen in Of Mice and Men in many characters that are prominent in the story. Each of these characters have had lasting events that led them here.
Crooks, who is the black man in the story, is treated differently because of his skin color. Crooks lives in a barn alone, separated from all the whites. We all may have had the feeling of loneliness and isolation, wanting companionship feeling abandonment. The three characters Crooks, George, and Lennie crusade dealing with own ways of loneliness and isolation. Crooks is very lonely and solitude for being alone every day. As a result, he wants to have friends who he can communicate with. Although he wants to express anger about people coming into his room, inside he is happy about it and enjoys it. This instability and loneliness that he has leads him to say how he could work for George, Lennie, and Candy on their farm.
This causes the greatness of loneliness in Crooks. The other workers on the ranch take place in some fun activities but Crooks is near invited to come play. Crooks has no one but envy that derives from the relationship around him.
